ABSTRACT

Available literature indicates residence life is an important step in building a solid foundation for success in and beyond college. Success in college is a way of building lifelong relationships and finding one’‘s place both socially and academically. This paper may equip universities and colleges with relevant information and the foundation for academic excellence. There are many factors contributing to the students’‘ success in academics in residence halls, one being the serene atmosphere for learning, availability of the necessary logistics, and the opportunity of study partners. This paper looks at literature covering different benefits to students in residence hall, with focus in the area of academics. Its main finding is that while there may be varied views about students who choose to be in residence halls, there is a positive influence on students and their academics.
